  • Through the pipe bursting process, GM Contracting is able to replace failing sewer and water mains up to 36 inches in diameter. During the pipe bursting process, a pneumatic hammer is pulled through an existing fracturable pipe, such as clay or cast iron, with a winch system. As the hammer is pulled through, its pneumatic action breaks apart the existing pipe while pulling the new pipe in behind it. This process allows a new pipe to be installed in the exact path of the old one, with only minor excavations. GM Contracting can install pipes of the same or larger diameter through a trenchless pipe bursting.

  • For the installation of drainage pipes or the replacement of failed culverts, GM Contracting utilizes the pipe ramming process. During pipe ramming, a new pipe or casing is physically rammed through the ground with a large pneumatic hammer. Pipes up to 36 inches in diameter can be rammed in lengths up to 150 feet. Once the casing reaches its destination, the soil is cleaned out of the inside and the pipe is ready for use without disturbing the surface of the road or in some cases railroad tracks. Pipe ramming can be used in vertical and angled applications in addition to standard horizontal applications.

  • GM Contracting installs service lines and small-diameter mains with trenchless piercing tools. These small-diameter underground “missiles” are pneumatically powered and are ideal for water services and sprinkler systems. They require only small excavations to launch and retrieve and are accurate for horizontal boring, underground ground, at distances up to 100 feet. During the process, a small launch pit is excavated at the main and another at the residence. The tool is positioned and lined up with the exit pit, then launched. The tool’s pneumatic action carries it through the ground and to the exit pit. When it arrives at the exit pit, the air hose is removed and the new pipe is attached to it. As the air hose is pulled back through the borehole, the new pipe is pulled in place.

A licensed InneReam contractor, GM Contracting is able to replace existing clay, PVC, and concrete sewer or storm pipes HDPE or PVC pipe quickly and easily. During the pipe reaming process, GM Contracting effectively places a drill rod string inside the host pipe to be replaced. A special back reamer is pulled back, reducing the existing pipe to small pieces that are carried along with other excess particles by the drilling fluid to a point where they are removed. At the same time, the new HDPE or PVC pipe is pulled into place following the path of the existing pipe. GM Contracting is Southern Minnesota’s pipe reaming expert contractor!
