GM Contracting installs service lines and small diameter mains with trenchless piercing tools. These small diameter underground “missiles” are pneumatically powered and are ideal for water services and sprinkler systems. They require only small excavations to launch and retrieve and are accurate for horizontal boring, underground ground, at distances up to 100 feet. During the process, a small launch pit is excavated at the main and another at the residence. The tool is positioned and lined up with the exit pit, then launched. The tool’s pneumatic action carries it through the ground and to the exit pit. When it arrives at the exit pit, the air hose is removed and the new pipe is attached to it. As the air hose is pulled back through the borehole, the new pipe is pulled in place.
